Who am I?
The Full Story
About
I am a student at the University of Calgary, pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science and Education. I was born in India but my family moved to Nairobi, Kenya where I did all of my schooling. Having studied in three different countries, I have had the chance to experience many different types of teaching styles and curricula.
My Teaching Philosophy
I have always seen education as such an important part of being human. We as a species are always evolving, learning from our surroundings about how the world works and innovating. Growing up, I was very fortunate to have a positive learning experience, to have teachers who fostered a positive environment and encouraged us to be lifelong learners. This started me on my journey to become a teacher. I am passionate about nurturing and growing the minds of our future generations and thereby hope to create a similar warm, welcoming and energetic classroom experience for my students.
I hope to pass on my passion for science, discovery, creativity and curiosity to my future students and make a difference in how they see the world. I will also make the most of my experiences as an international student and English Language Learner (ELL) as an additional tool to reach some of my students and assist them with their learning journey. I aim to continue to learn from my students, peers and from the environment around me and I hope to keep growing and developing my philosophy to best suit my students and me.
I look forward to being a teacher in the near future!
My Interests
Over my time as a pre-service teacher, I have been able to see the importance of self-care, especially in the position of a teacher where the work involves a lot of “heartwork”. I think that it is extremely important to have a hobby or activity that helps you unwind and reflect on your emotions.
One of the things that I have always loved to do while growing up is making and decorating cakes! Recently, I have started to crochet and I like to spend my free time making toques and accessories for my friends and family.
